The Yard

The Yard is an ongoing photographic project documenting the makers, artists, designers and craftspeople working within a former industrial yard in Hastings, East Sussex. What began as a personal curiosity about a place that had long been closed off to the public has developed into a broader exploration of making, creativity, community and our relationship with the physical world.

Through intimate documentary photography, I want to look beyond the finished objects and capture the people, spaces, materials and processes behind them. I am interested in the quiet, often unseen work of making and crafting by hand, the hands at work, tools and materials, cluttered studios, and the individual environments that allow creative practices to exist and develop.
