Gen Z Leaving Home (2024)

In 2024 I found myself with my nest half empty, my daughter moved to Barcelona, and my son already has one foot out the door.

We raised our children in a small seaside town on the South Coast of England, a place with a close-knit community where everyone’s children felt like part of one big extended family.

It both saddens and delights me to have watched so many of these kids grow up and become young adults. Sad, because it all passed in the blink of an eye. Happy, because it’s been a privilege and a joy to play a small part in so many young lives, to know them, watch them grow, and be there along the way.

And so, this project began to take shape, just as the Gen Zs started to leave home.
